Victoria College Prep Bring Local Primary Schools Together with Weekend Football Tournament

VCP are due to host a series of football tournaments for local primary schools at their Heathfield site throughout the autumn term.

Due to Covid the usual fixtures between VCP and other primary schools across the island were cancelled. In a bid to maintain friendly competition and offer students a facility to participate in weekend sport, Sport Teacher, Ben Silva, has set up a series of matches on Saturday mornings for students in Years 3-6.

The schools who are currently confirmed to take part in the tournaments are: De La Salle, Grouville, St Michael’s, St George’s, St Clement, FCJ and St Lawrence.

Mr Silva says “Covid has taken away a multitude of opportunities from our students, as well as those across the island. VCP wanted to help students reengage with weekend sport, especially the ability to play against other schools”.

Mr Lumley, Deputy Head, VCP says “This initiative is a great way for our students to have the opportunity to experience school sporting fixtures for the first time in almost 2 years. Friendly competition and the opportunity to enjoy physical activity with friends are important elements of being a child, all of which had been restricted due to Covid regulations.

VCP want to offer their site and facilities to other schools to allow children from across the island to enjoy playing football and have the chance to represent their school once again.

I must send my thanks to our Friends of Prep parental body who have offered their time to provide refreshments for players and spectators, as well as to Mr Silva for his ongoing work with reengaging with other local primary schools – we are looking forward to seeing the tournaments in action!”.

The tournaments will take place on these dates:

  • Saturday 25th September
  • Saturday 2nd October
  • Saturday 6th November
  • Saturday 13th November
  • Saturday 27th November
