World Mental Health Day: Every Day Matters

As we mark World Mental Health Day on 10 October, we're taking the opportunity to highlight the importance of looking after our mental health and supporting those around us.

At Victoria College, we believe that supporting good mental health isn't about just one day. It's something that matters every day.

Through our PSHE programme and assemblies, students learn about emotional wellbeing, resilience, managing stress, healthy relationships and finding balance. In Year 7, this includes a dedicated six-week mental health unit delivered by Sixth Form students, helping to build understanding of mental wellbeing from the beginning of their secondary school journey.

Looking out for one another

Support extends beyond the classroom. Our peer mentoring and buddy systems encourage students to look out for one another and help create a culture where students know they are not alone.

Healthy habits matter

We reinforce the importance of everyday habits that support good mental health: maintaining healthy routines, staying connected with others, being physically active and making time to rest and recharge.

Knowing when to seek support

Just as importantly, we encourage students to recognise when something doesn’t feel right and to seek support early. Trusted adults in school are there to help, alongside specialist organisations including Kooth, YES, Mind Jersey, Childline and the NSPCC.

Every day matters

Our message is simple: no one should feel they have to manage challenges alone. By encouraging open conversations and giving students the knowledge, confidence and support networks they need, we aim to make looking after mental health part of everyday College life.
