Our people and community

More than a school, we are a community

Victoria College is Jersey's oldest States school and continues to thrive, along with the Preparatory school, thanks to the dedication of our teaching and support staff, our Foundation Trustees, Foundation Partners, Board of Governors, association of Old Victorians and an army of parent volunteers.

We prioritise the safety, wellbeing, learning and prospects of our boys. Together, we support one another in building a base for lifelong belonging.

Floreat Collegium!

Victoria College Foundation

The Foundation was founded in 2002 as part of the 150th Anniversary of the founding of the college in order to support the ever-changing needs of the school life and help sustain the long-held tradition of providing quality education for all those involved with college life. It is set up as a Jersey Charitable Trust, registration No. NP00882.

The trustees of the Jersey Trust who oversee the Foundation is chaired by Paul Wiling, and its activities are accountable to the Governing Body.

The Foundation’s primary purpose is to provide, preserve and maintain any building on school-owned land. It plays a vital role in fundraising for capital projects that allow the school to continue to expand and enhance its facilities to meet the changing needs of our boys and the school.

During our Founders Week celebrations in September, the senior school boys all take part in Founders’ Walk and raise funds for The Foundation Bursary. In a whole school-assembly, including our

prep boys, we also announce the winners of the Victoria Citizenship Award and Co-Curricular Award, which is sponsored by one of our foundation Partners, Quilter Cheviot.

Parent volunteers

We are extremely fortunate to have an active group of parents who volunteer their time and skills to help build links within our school community of parents, staff and pupils,

At the Prep school, the PTA is called Friends of Prep.  It organises much loved social events and fundraising activities throughout the year including the annual disco, Christmas parties, Bingo and Cinema nights, cake sales and the summer fete. Friends of Prep also run a 2nd Hand Uniform shop which is open every Monday from 3pm.

The funds raised by Friends of Prep go towards extra resources and activities that enhance the boys school experience and, for example coaches on all school trips. Many fond memories are made at these events.

At College, parents are encouraged to get involved via the Victoria College Parents’ Association. The committee meets six times a year, holds parent forums and distributes funds to support school and enrich the boys’ time at College. It also runs Nearly New Uniform shop, which opens on the first Thursday of each month.

The primary aims of the VCPA are to:

  • Provide feedback loop between parents and staff on school policy and education ideas
  • Distribute funds contributed to it to enhance their academic and co-cirricular experience at College.
  • Organise activities for parents to attend school to feel part of the school and understand what makes it so special
  • Support school events

For VCPA queries email Chair, Helen Worthy: VCPAChair@gmail.com

Both groups always warmly welcome new members, and offer a great opportunity to make friends and get to know the respective schools better.
