Tomorrow's Leaders Conference
Bringing together aspiring and newly elected student leaders from Jersey's secondary schools
Launched in 2021, this conference brings together aspiring and newly elected student leaders from all secondary schools across Jersey, providing a forum for discussing and developing school leadership skills. Our aim is to create a unique community of student leaders who are equipped and empowered to move into their new roles for the next academic year, meeting regularly to share best practices and ideas, and ultimately, delivering the very best in leadership across all of our schools.
The 2025 Tomorrow's Leaders Programme
In 2025, we welcomed student leaders from across Jersey and Guernsey who worked alongside our Victoria College Prefect team throughout the day.
In collaboration with PwC, the event offered students a deep dive into the essence of leadership. They explored different leadership styles, examined what makes an effective leader, heard from previous student leaders and engaged in a range of interactive sessions and collaborative tasks - all designed to help them better understand themselves as emerging leaders.
Thank you to Ian Ross, Director and Jersey Banking Leader - PwC, who opened the conference with an inspiring keynote address. He shared valuable insights from his own leadership journey, highlighting the critical role of self-awareness in personal and professional development.
We are also incredibly grateful to our sponsor, PwC, the Institute of Directors and our expert panel (Sir Peter Wall, Alex Ruddy and Paul Murphy) for their support throughout the day — moderating tables and running a fabulous panel session moderated by PwC. Their leadership expertise and thoughtful facilitation enriched the experience for all our student delegates.
Special thanks go to Jennifer Carnegie from Amicus, whose contribution went beyond sharing leadership wisdom. Thanks to her support, every student had the opportunity to complete their first behavioural assessment - a powerful tool for gaining deeper self-understanding and growing as future leaders.
Today's Leaders - Mid Year Meeting
Students then met again in December at the Today’s Leaders Conference to discuss the challenges that they are facing in their roles, to discuss potential solutions and share best practices. Each table brought together student leaders from 3 different schools who all shared their individual challenges. Students then spoke with peers from their own school to produce a plan, inclusive of a timeline and actions to overcome the obstacles that they currently face. It was a brilliant day of collaboration that has most certainly equipped and empowered our student leaders to deliver the very best in leadership in our schools.
What's new in 2026?
In 2026, we are, once again, delighted to be delivering this conference in collaboration with PwC, whose extensive experience of developing leaders will help support Channel Island student leaders to inspire, innovate and drive positive change in their schools and in their future careers.
We are especially pleased to welcome Dr Samir Puri, Geopolitics Thought Leader, Strategic Advisor and Public Speaker, as our guest speaker. He will be joined by Dan Frost (Head Boy), Joe Moynihan (CEO, Jersey Finance) and Kate Wright (Founder of Abre Consulting and the Diversity Network) for a Leadership Panel discussion. This new addition to the format of the conference will offer students a unique opportunity to engage directly with experienced industry leaders.
Session overview
Preparing for Leadership at a Time of Technological and Geopolitical Change
What awaits the leaders of the 2030s? While no one can fully predict the future, the technological and geopolitical forces shaping it are already emerging. Dr. Puri will explore these global trends and share the qualities, knowledge, and mindsets future leaders will need to navigate them. He will also reflect on his own leadership journey - and how the analogue disciplines of history, politics, and literature continue to offer unique advantages in an increasingly digital age.
This session promises to be thought‑provoking, relevant, and deeply valuable for young leaders preparing for a rapidly evolving world.
Roundtable Discussions
Deputy Headteacher, Mr Crossley, and Assistant Head Academic, Mrs Palfreyman, will provide delegates with a series of questions and scenarios, that they might face in their roles, to consider and discuss in small groups. Delegates will be supported in trying to find answers and solutions.
Public Speaking
Head of Drama, Ms Ogg, will share with you some key considerations for public speaking. This can often be a daunting aspect of school leadership that can be made slightly easier by considering how best to command your audience and deliver your message.
Team Building
Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Murphy, will introduce you to different roles that exist within a team, using the Belbin model. She will then set you a task which will require each member of your team to take on a role, enabling you to reflect upon the role that you took on and the reasons for doing so.
Panel Session
Both the guest speaker, Dr Samir Puri, and the panel will focus on the theme of 'Leading Through Complexity and Change.' Dr Puri will be joined on the panel by Kate Wright, Joe Moynihan and Dan Frost and student leaders will be invited to prepare questions that they would like to pose.
Why should students attend?
This event will provide students with knowledge and skills to approach their leadership role confidently for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Students will have the opportunity to discuss with other students their ideas and concerns to develop a support network that can be built upon throughout the year.
To support students in accessing and processing the information provided, they will be given a booklet, specifically prepared for them, to fill out during each session with what they have learned. This is designed to be a valuable reminder of what was discussed during the conference that they can keep with them as they move into their leadership roles.
